Despite being injured, the baby elephant still actively rushed to attack the lion. This reckless act cost it a great deal.

The clip was recorded by tourist Cynthia Mack in Hwange National Park.

Specifically, while on tour, the female tourist suddenly encountered a lone baby elephant limping towards the water hole. Due to injuries, the elephant was accidentally caught in the sights of three young lions lying on a mound nearby.

Seeing one of the three lions approaching, the baby elephant tried to scare the enemy in the hope that he could escape. However, all its efforts were unsuccessful.

A few minutes later, the remaining 2 lions quickly approached and assisted their accomplices to defeat their prey. Discovering the incident, a large male elephant ran to rescue the baby elephant, but it quickly turned away because its fellow could not get up. As a result, due to no longer able to resist, the baby elephant became a hearty meal for the lions.

Lions are super predators and top carnivores thanks to their abundant prey populations. Their primary prey is other mammals, especially medium to large ungulates.

However, in the wild, lions rarely hunt elephants for food. Because, elephants are not only the largest animals on land, but they also possess many “weapons” that can endanger the lives of predators.

However, when in the dry season, food sources are scarce, lions are forced to defy danger to hunt this giant prey.
