Being attacked by crocodiles for 25 minutes, wildebeest still miraculously escaped death

The tug-of-war between crocodiles and antelopes lasted for about 25 minutes inside the Masai Mara National Park in Kenya. Video recorded shows an antelope weighing about 127 kg moving across the Mara River when unfortunately tripping. The 272 kg Nile crocodile suddenly emerged, opening its mouth wide to reveal sharp teeth that had grabbed the antelope’s hip.

While the antelope tried to climb to the shore, the crocodile kept submerging it in the water. Two large animals struggle in a life-and-death battle.

Finally, luckily the antelope escaped from the crocodile’s jaws and landed on the shore. WildEarthTV, a live broadcast of wildebeest migrations, captures the whole scene in the natural world.

About 6,000 gazelles are killed in the Mara River each year as they migrate to greener pastures during the rainy season. However, their deaths are significant, providing not only food for crocodiles but also many other animals including fish, birds, hyenas…

Antelopes are usually herbivorous and mostly go in herds, sometimes in association with zebras in large groups. Meanwhile, the Nile crocodile is the largest African crocodile. Crocodiles can be up to 5 meters long, rarely seeing them up to 5.5 meters long. Adult crocodiles weigh about 225 kg and some individuals can weigh up to 700 kg.
