The lion is one of four species of large cats, widely distributed but living mainly in the grasslands of Africa. They are organized animals, clearly hierarchical, often concentrated in relatively large herds, in which, there is a male leader and many females and their young.

It is no coincidence that the male lion is likened to the king of all animals. They possess both the strength, speed and prestige of the top species. That day, Rooyen’s tour group had just finished a late breakfast when suddenly heard the pitiful cry of a wild buffalo coming from the Sand River near the MalaMala Main campsite. It took about 5 minutes for the group to move to the location of the incident.

What happened before our eyes really exceeded everyone’s expectations. A magnificent scene appeared. A herd of lions with about 22 members is gathering to conduct a hunt for a wild buffalo. But, things are not as easy as people witness.

Anyway, buffalo is also in the ranking of the largest and most ferocious animals in Africa. Not only that, the buffalo also received additional help from another fellow fellow. However, when faced with an attack from 22 members of the lion herd, after two hours of fierce resistance, the buffalo had to give up and accept its fate.

The pitiful cry before closing the eyes of the wild buffalo accidentally alerted a herd of active elephants nearby. Witnessing the desolate scene in front of them, the elephants expressed disapproval and made moves to scare away the lions from the carcass of the buffalo. At first, the lion seemed a bit shy about the appearance of a new group of opponents. But only after a while, they became bolder and ignored the elephants to continue eating the meal that took so much effort to achieve.
