While visiting the Masai Mara National Park in southern Kenya with a few friends, photographer Gerlach Read accidentally heard the screams of hyenas. Immediately, he took out his camera and captured a rare moment in the wild.

Specifically, it is the scene where the hyena captures the newborn antelope, but does not kill the prey.

According to the German photographer, the hyena surprised him by not killing the newborn baby antelope. Because, normally hyenas will immediately “eat” every prey they catch.

However, when following the hyenas, photographer Gerlach Read finally understood why the hyena did not kill its prey.

Because, it wants to bring the newborn antelope back to the cave to teach its children how to hunt.
