During a recent picnic with his wife and parents in Kruger National Park, South Africa, Merwe van Niekerk encountered a leopard lying under a tree. When Merwe’s parents left and announced over the radio that they saw a herd of wild boars crossing the road, Merwe noticed that the leopard began to change its behavior, preparing to hunt.

The leopard slowly hid under the bushes, waiting for its prey to pass by. The wild boars were unaware of the leopard’s presence and a leader approached. Then, the leopard launched an attack and captured a wild boar. But because the prey was too big or the leopard was exhausted, it couldn’t drag the animal’s carcass up the tree but just pulled it across the road and disappeared into the bushes.

Sharing with Latest Sightings, Merwe van Niekerk said this was a rare and lucky scene that he had the opportunity to record.
