Antoni Britz, manager of Elephant Walk Retreat located in Kruger National Park, South Africa, captured a remarkable incident and shared it with LatestSightings.com.

In the video, it can be seen that when the lions came near the river to drink water, there was also a lone buffalo there. The buffalo saw the lions and immediately rushed towards them, to show the lions that he was still aware of the threat. There are many lions, but some are immature, inexperienced and seem afraid to confront buffaloes directly.

The lions maintained a safe distance from the buffalo and refused to give up. “The young lions acquired the necessary hunting skills by observing and imitating the experienced adults in the pride. Through this process, they learn to stalk silently through tall grass, carry out strategic group ambushes, and time their attacks precisely. Such abilities help lions analyze and adapt to different behaviors of their prey,” Antoni Britz said.

Finally, in an attempt to escape the lions, the buffalo sought refuge in the river. This move left the lions confused and uncertain about their next move. Meanwhile, the buffalo realized that standing in water full of crocodiles for a long time would not guarantee his survival, so he decided to cross the riverbank.

Seeing their prey escape, the lions resigned themselves to drinking water. As for the buffalo, relief was evident on his tired face as the lions gradually left. Perhaps, the proud lions do not have the courage to cross waters full of crocodiles just for a meal.
